A few minutes drive takes you to the long deserted beaches of Balmedie and Cruden Bay (cruden.jpg) and to the Bird Sanctuary on the Ythan Estuary.  

Deeside and Donside can provide the more active with walking and cycling.  ird watching and rock climbing enthusiasts, and for the more sedate, dolphin watching at Buckie.
